Employee Training and DevelopmentDiversity topics and content are part of our total training and development curriculum. We address diversity in our e-learning programs, in our classroom training, and in our coaching and mentoring programs. When a person starts a career with Walgreens, the company orientation program includes information on our beliefs and expectations. We want all new employees to understand how important it is to treat everyone here at Walgreens - our employees, our customers, and our vendors-with respect and dignity.
This message is woven throughout all our training programs. At every level, in every context, we try to reinforce the fact that we want to be an inclusive, welcoming culture. Each position receives training on cultural awareness; we teach our workforce how to behave with sensitivity, in a fair and thoughtful manner. We teach our leaders how to develop and retain a diverse workforce to best meet the needs of our patients and customers. Training classes and programs include many different aspects of diversity; some of our classes are:
- Disability Awareness classes for HR Professionals
- Harassment Awareness and Prevention for Non-Managers
- Managing in an Inclusive Workplace
- Preventing Discrimination
- Selling to Customers Unlike Me
- Working Together
Our mentoring and coaching programs carry this theme one step forward; here, employees receive direct feedback on the tone and messages in their interactions so they can develop the interpersonal skills needed to be successful in an inclusive environment. They learn how their communication is perceived and how to manage perceptions.
