Philip P. Burgess serves as the Vice-Chair of the Illinois State Board of Pharmacy and President of the Board of Trustees for the Community Pharmacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps raise awareness of the important role that community pharmacists play in improving patient care. Phil has served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. He was appointed by President Clinton in 1998 and then re-appointed by President Bush in 2000. The Council played a major role in the decision to provide $15 billion to fight the epidemic in Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S.
In addition, Phil has served on the National Board of Directors of the Human Rights Campaign ("HRC") and currently serves on the HRC's National Business Council, which he co-founded. The HRC is the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender political organization in the country with over 500,000 members.
Phil has been recognized for his efforts with the Friend for Life Award from the Howard Brown Health Center, the 100 Champions Award from the 2006 Chicago Gay Games, the Unity Globe Award from the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and the Harold W. Pratt Award from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.
