Elena Kraus
Director of Transactional Law
For three years, Elena Kraus has served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Lake County. Elena became interested in the work of the YWCA after her mentor, Laurie Meyer, Divisional Vice President of Corporate Communications, invited her to several events when she served on the YWCA Board of Directors. In addition to her work on the Board of Directors, Elena serves on the Nominating Committee, which is charged with the discovery and development of young women leaders, and as the board liaison for the Women's Economic Advancement Committee, which works to educate women on handling their finances to achieve economic self-sufficiency and well-being for themselves and their families.

Elena finds it easy to stay motivated to serve the YWCA, because she believes in its mission to eliminate racism and empower women and girls. As a result of her service, she says, "I am more aware of just how fortunate I am to be able to have an organization such as Walgreens supporting me and my career development. I am also more appreciative of the obstacles that women and minorities face in attempting to break into and succeed in corporate America."

For others considering volunteering, Elena says, "Just do it! You don't get paid in dollars, but the rewards that you receive from making a difference in other people's lives are more valuable than money; you end up making an investment in yourself."
