Dennis Santiago

Dennis Santiago currently serves on the Board of Directors for La Sociedad Americana del Cáncer de Puerto Rico (The American Cancer Society of Puerto Rico). For the second year in a row, he is Chairman of one of 18 Relay for Life events on the island of Puerto Rico. This event is especially inspiring to Dennis, since it includes five teams of fellow Walgreen employees. Dennis describes it as an opportunity, "to serve our community and honor our survivors."
Among the many cancer survivors Dennis honors during the Relay is his wife, Crucita, who is a 5-year survivor. He also walks to honor and remember many close friends who have passed away as a result of cancer. Dennis is proud of those Walgreen employees who are taking the time to walk with him, and he is pleased that the employees in his community understand the meaning and benefits of social work.
Dennis believes that working with the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life events has brought a lot of goodwill to Walgreens and a sense of pride for giving back to the community; he believes this is simply part of being a good neighbor. "If we want to make our Puerto Rico or the US a better place to live, we have to all chip in and do something," Dennis explains. "It is our responsibility as business people and as volunteers to make a difference."
