Community RevitalizationWalgreens actively seeks to open stores in areas needing rejuvenation, where its stores can be a catalyst for additional redevelopment. The company will invest millions of dollars in a new building on an old lot. And landscaping beautifies the site with a fresh look.
When a new Walgreens opens, it does more than supply area residents with products and services to handle life's necessities. The store also becomes an anchor for a thriving, growing community.
Walgreens will typically add about 30 new jobs to the area, more if the store is open around the clock.
A new Walgreens also adds to the city's tax base. Tens of thousands of dollars in sales tax revenue is generated for the city by a typical store.
The store also provides an outlet for local manufacturers. Products made by individuals right in the community have another potential retail outlet when a new Walgreens opens. That's because the store manager has the authority to stock items of special interest to local residents.
Most importantly, Walgreens is committed to building stronger communities and improving the lives of our customers and their families. All across the country, our outreach programs focus on two main efforts-improving the health of our communities and mentoring youth:
- Health education programs and services that benefit diverse community populations, including free health screenings through the 'Walgreens Wellness Tour' and 'Urban League Wellness Bus' programs.
- Educational materials and counseling available in multiple languages.
- Sponsorship of - and participation in - other local community healthcare events.
- One-on-One tutoring programs serving disadvantaged and underserved youth.
